Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a wonderful break. It felt like a good, long time to relax, enjoy family
and friends, and experience three of our four seasons in the span of a week!
As we settle back in over the course of the next few days, there are a few things to keep
in mind:
1. Looks like we have a bit of a roller coaster of temperatures. Please send all the
appropriate layers to make sure your child(ren) can enjoy those parts of our day
that take us outside. This includes both recess and, in some cases, instructional
time. Also, remember our campus is likely to be a bit on the muddy side the next
couple of days.
2. FAST begins one week from Friday (1/13) for Whaleback skiers and two weeks
from Friday (1/20) for other activities*. Watch for confirmation of your child(ren)’s
assignments and some important updates that will be emailed based on your
child(ren)’s selections:
a. *January 13 is an early release day. The Whaleback program still runs but
everyone else will be dismissed two hours early at 12:50. Horsemanship is
offering an optional session on the 13th but families will have to pick up at
the barn as there will not be any transportation back to school.
b. Swim participants should watch for an email with a waiver that needs to be
signed.
c. There are also some forms along with revised date options, prices, and
descriptions for the Horsemanship offering.

3. We have an Assembly this Friday. We will be kicking off our “Passport to Winter
Fun.” This is a wonderful program that encourages and rewards healthy habits
and activities for kids and families throughout the winter months. Watch for more
information on Friday!
4. We will administer the mid-year iReady assessment in ELA and math classes
during the next two weeks. Most students complete the mid-year benchmark in a
single course period. It can provide helpful data to help us identify any learning
issues or gaps. We will not begin until Wednesday this week to give students a
chance to ease back in. We hope to be done a week from Friday. Please reach
out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
5. Art club begins this week...see info below!

Headed to bed early...I am definitely out of practice with the whole “early morning”
thing. Actually, I’m quite out of the habit of setting an alarm clock at all.
See you in the morning!
