Audra Bucklin

Good Afternoon,

I hope you are all safe and warm and enjoying this winter wonderland. It sure is pretty but nobody likes to be without power! I lost mine for about 12 hours and I know others have been without it for a couple of days at this point. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if we can help in any way.

It’s hard to believe vacation is upon us. Speaking of vacation, I want to call your attention to the following:

  • We have school Monday and Tuesday only this week
  • Classes resume on Monday, January 2, 2023.

We are looking forward to jumping back into our Spirit Days activities. Tomorrow is PJ Day and Tuesday is Ugly Sweater Day. For the trivia players out there, this tradition originated in the early 2000s with the first-ever “Ugly Sweater Party” in Vancouver. And it was based on 1980s sitcoms and movies like National Lampoon’s Christmas where the leading characters had poor fashion sense. From big hair and flavored lip gloss to leg warmers and ugly sweaters, the 80s were indeed pretty special!

FAST

Before we head out on break, I wanted to give a quick update about FAST. It will be here before we know it!

  • Whaleback chaperones must attend mandatory training at Whaleback tomorrow night - December 19th - at 6 pm. The rental counter is offering fittings from 5 to 6 pm.    Babysitting is available by donation. If you are unable to make it, please reach out to Donelle Bucholtz at fast@plainfieldschool.org
  • With 90% of the responses in, I can confirm we have enough participation to run most activities and nearly all students can pursue their “First Choice” interest.
  • There are a few folks that indicated “Maybe” regarding Whaleback. We will be reaching out this week to confirm one way or another.
  • Skating will take place on the KUA campus at an outdoor rink outside of the student center. Thank you KUA!! This is a huge help as we work out transportation to the various offerings.
  • As indicated in my last letter, the Willow Brook Horse Farm option is “Horsemanship.” Students will be able to ride if the weather allows and will also spend time learning about safety and the care of horses. If this changes your selection, please reach out to the office - office@plainfieldschool.org - as soon as possible so we can plan.
  • The “Dance” option is not going to run due to a lack of sign-ups.
  • Finally, we got quite a bit of interest in the Rock Climbing option. If you have any experience in this and are available to help from 1 pm to 2:30 pm on Fridays, beginning January 20th through February 10th (or February 17th, depending on the need for a makeup day), please reach out to me directly - abucklin@plainfieldschool.org.

REPORT CARDS

Everyone should have received an email with your child(ren)’s report card(s) on Friday. You may also log into Alma and view the report card(s) there anytime. As this is a “pilot,” we welcome any and all constructive feedback. We are reflecting on the process here at school as well. You can expect us to be fine-tuning the report card template and input throughout this year.

It’s a short week so I think that’s all I have for today. I’m off to get ready for an annual cookie-decorating party with friends. With both of my kids grown and living away from home, I am even more thankful than ever for these traditions with good friends. I hope you and your loved ones enjoy many wonderful traditions of your own in the days to come.

We look forward to seeing you in the morning!

Cheers,

Audra
