Call for Volunteers for the Plainfield School Capital Facilities Project Committee

______________________________________________________________________

 November 22, 2022

Dear Plainfield School Community,

 The Plainfield School District is forming an advisory committee of school and community members to develop and carry out a plan for a Capital Facilities Project. This committee will be made up of a cross-section of our school and community to ensure that multiple voices and considerations are heard throughout all stages of the project.

 Project Purpose

In 2023, the Plainfield School will be 50 years old. This is a great time to think about the next 50 years of the school as the educational heart of the community. There is also a rare opportunity to think more broadly about the facility given a pledge from an anonymous donor of $1 million, with an expected match of $500,000 to be financed separately. The goals of this donation are to make the Plainfield School one of the best small schools in America, with learning focused on agriculture, citizenship and civics.

 Committee Goals

The goals of the Capital Facilities Project Advisory Committee are to identify the functional necessities of the school building and grounds needed to provide safe, effective and efficient support of current educational programs; to identify additions and/or improvements to the facility that would meaningfully enhance educational programs at Plainfield School; and to develop a formal plan for these improvements to be brought to the community as a warrant article in March 2024.

Expectations of Committee Members:

Members appointed to the committee are expected to:

  • Guide the project to benefit the community by advancing the strategic mission of the Plainfield School;

  • Participate in the solicitation, collection, and analysis of school and community input through surveys, focus groups, and other meetings;

  • Attend monthly meetings through project completion (more often at critical times);

  • Provide initial, ongoing, and final feedback on project conceptual design;

  • Assist in fundraising events (both online and event-based); and

  • Provide reports to the School Board concerning direction and decisions.
