St. Gaudens Field Trip

Saint-Gaudens Field Trip

Last week the entire 3/4 grade visited Saint-Gaudens National Park for the day. Classes rotated through different stations learning about Augustus Saint-Gaudens and his work. They met a park ranger, an art educator, and a sculptor-in-residence. Each class had a tour of the house and stable area. They learned how Saint-Gaudens created his sculptures and some sculpture terminology. The students hiked down the Ravine trail and learned about the local fauna and flora. They went on a sculpture scavenger hunt to find and see many of his artwork. Some of the students’ favorite parts of the field trip were the Shaw Memorial, the frog pond, Diana the huntress, and the giant Abraham Lincoln statue.
