Principal Ponderings Graphic

Hello PES,

Wow, what a weekend! It kicked off on Friday with an afternoon of community service and fun as Partner Up Classes embarked on a variety of service projects here at PES and across town. Thank you to those who joined us to lend a hand and experience this special PES tradition. Donna and Steve Beaupre enjoyed circulating amongst the many group projects, chatting with students, and pitching in to help get some important jobs done. Be sure to ask your child(ren) how they contributed.

And the weekend just got better from there…Meriden was abuzz with KUA graduation, Plainfield Village had the most impressive array of yard sales and Mother Nature smiled down on all of it! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend as much as I did. My son and his girlfriend came to visit. I’ve lived here 22 years and had never hiked to the “Top of the World” in Cornish or kayaked on the Connecticut. Now I have and I have a sunburn to prove it!  Whatever you did this weekend, I hope you were able to take a breather before we return for the final 3+ weeks of school. We have much to look forward to 🙂.

As SAS testing winds down, we are preparing to start iReady testing later this week. These tests are typically shorter and more familiar to our students and should wrap up pretty quickly over the next couple of weeks. Be sure to review the calendar at the bottom of this email for an up-to-date list of events such as the Athletic Awards Banquet (June 14th); Spring Fling (June 16th), the 1st to 4th Spelling Bee (June 19th) and so much more!

Here’s what else we’ve got going on this week:

TUESDAY, MAY 30

Lunch Menu - First and foremost, we ARE serving lunch. There was a mix-up on the Abby Group calendar because Cornish is off tomorrow. We will be serving deli turkey sub, garden pasta salad, watermelon for lunch that day. along with our other options of Ham, SBJ, Parfait.

Memorial Day Ceremony - NO ALL SCHOOL SING - Wear RedWhite and Blue! 8:10 to 8:30 by the flagpole. This is an annual tradition at PES and is hosted by our Student Council who will lead us in taking pause to remember lost loved ones.

  • Note: The last 3/4 Art Club Session is next Wednesday, June 7 from 3 to 4.

FRIDAY, JUNE 2

IMPORTANT HEADS UP:

Offsite Evacuation Drill

One week from this Thursday, we will have an offsite evacuation drill where we evacuate the entire school to the KUA Flickinger Auditorium. PES, KUA, and Plainfield Emergency Services will work together to conduct this important drill and dismissal will take place from KUA. Please stay tuned for more information.

Other Emergency Drills & Events

In recent weeks, we have had the opportunity to ‘practice’ our response to emergency situations in real-time. There have been two “clear the halls” and one “reverse evacuation” from the playground. These typically take place to protect the privacy of someone having a medical or other emergency. During these events, students know to return to and remain in their classrooms until someone from the office comes over the loudspeaker to say that the event is over. Students and staff have done a great job with these and show so much support and empathy for those who need their privacy. The care our community shows for one another is truly humbling.

SUMMER OFFERINGS

Summer Skills Camp Registration Form

If your child(ren) will be attending Summer Skills Camp at PES, please complete this official registration form for each child.  You may have filled out an interest survey earlier this spring, however the registration form is what we need in order to be prepared for your child’s attendance.  If you have any questions, please contact Amanda Parker or Jen Lizotte.

Other Summer Camp Info

Also, please make sure to take a look at our attachments featuring basketball clinics at Cory Taber Park as well as a summer arts camp.
