Principal Ponderings

Hello,

What a week we just had! The T.I.G.E.R. performers capped it off with an energizing day of workshops for older students (grades 6 to 8) and a compelling anti-bullying performance for grades K to 5. Check the website for pictures and be sure to ask your student about their impression. It was especially fun to experience the sea of Connected Through Kindness t-shirts. I was proud of all of our students and the conversations the T.I.G.E.R. program inspired. We plan to keep this going through advisory and H3 programming. Our students are exposed to so much biased and hateful media these days. From jokes and memes about disabled people, black people, and women to daily news stories about the ways black people, Jews, and others continue to be targeted by hate speech and violence, our students need our help to make sense of it all. It is also critically important we continue to reinforce our expectations of respect, kindness, and compassion for all members of our community.

Thank you so much for your support of the PTA Book Fair. It was a huge success and had the front hall full of smiles and activity for the better part of the week. See the attached “Thank you” note for complete details.

THE WEEK AHEAD

This week will be another busy one with early release on both Thursday and Friday for Parent Teacher Conferences. The end of the day is at 12:50, exactly 2 hours earlier than usual. Please plan accordingly.

You will receive a confirmed time from your teacher by the end of the day Tuesday (if you haven’t already heard from them.) We hope to see EVERYONE there. Teachers will review your child’s academic performance based on classwork and test scores. Be sure to ask about our expanded Summer Skill Camp in July. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to prevent the “summer slide” and learn through fun projects four ½ days per week.

FRIDAY’S MENU - The Abbey Group will be serving Hot Dogs, Pasta Salad, Fresh Fruit and Veggie Bar and Milk Variety on March 31st.

It’s finally here! The Newsies Musical runs this week on March 31st and April 1st. Our 3rd through 8th graders have the opportunity to attend during the day on Friday the 31st. If you have not already done so, please download, print, complete and return the attached permission form. You will find ticket information for the evening productions below.

SNEAKER SALE CONTINUES

Wow, who knew your closets were so full of sneakers 🙂.  Thanks for the donations from so many and the 6th grade class efforts, 45 PAIRS OF SHOES are on their way to be reused or recycled for materials! The Class of 2025 is also saving some really great ones for a local sneaker sale! Thanks for helping the class raise money AND for keeping these shoes out of the landfill.

There’s still time! They’ll be collecting shoes through April, so clean out your closets and tell your friends! Drop them off at one of our collection boxes conveniently placed at the school, The Plainfield Country Store, Plainfield Church, or Plainfield Town Offices.

SCHOOL SING RETURNS

Thank you for your understanding that we decided to cancel the K to 4 school sing last week. It is back this week and we look forward to seeing many of you there (8:05 to 8:15 am in the lobby.)

NEWSIES

Newsies shared some sneak peeks of their production and sold quite a few tickets to their March 31st and April 1st performances at the Briggs Opera House (7pm both evenings.) It’s not too late to get your tickets:

NH BRIGHT FUTURES SURVEY

Please be reminded the state has released the annual “Bright Futures Survey.” This survey is administered to families, staff, and community members and provides critical information for the state, our local school board, and the administration and teachers. We use the information to set annual and strategic goals, determine training needs, and steer programs here at PES. Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the survey:
