Good Afternoon Blackhawks!

I hope everyone had a wonderful break. We are very excited to see everyone and to settle back into our routines. I want to thank everyone for a very successful 2023 FAST program. Be sure to check out the photos on the scrolling slideshow at www.plainfieldschool.org.  And for those who missed it, check out our PES students, teachers, and chaperones who made it onto the 6 o’clock news the Friday before break!

Speaking of the Friday before break, our Artist in Residence - Rich Regione with YouthBeatz - had a family emergency and had to cancel the planned Assembly that day. I am pleased to announce Rich will join us this Friday for refresher drumming sessions and an afternoon Assembly that will provide all students the opportunity to perform.

The drumming will be a nice kick-off to a very full March. Be sure to check out the monthly calendar of events (below) and stay tuned to the website and this weekly email for important updates. Highlights include the following:

  • Drama rehearsals continue in preparation for their production of Newsies on March 30th and 31st
  • 3rd and 4th Graders are busy preparing for Project Sleuth scheduled to take place on March 16th
  • 5th Graders will be working with Northern Stage’s BridgeUP program throughout the month.
  • 6th Grade is hosting the “Got Sneakers Fundraiser”
  • Grades close on March 17th (also a PD day for teachers - no school that day!)
  • Parent Teacher Conferences (including early release days) on March 30th and 31st
  • The PTA Book Fair will be here the week of March 20th (See attached flier with details)
  • And so much more (All District Band and Chorus concerts in Lebanon, art club, math meets, field trips, XC Skiing as long as the snow sticks around, etc., etc.)

One of my favorite events of the year takes place on Saturday, March 18th. School District Meeting, beginning at 9 am, and Town Meeting at 1 pm, represent everything I love about living in Plainfield and the critically important opportunity to support the school budget 🙂. This long-standing and unique NH tradition allows community members to come together and truly understand one another’s priorities and concerns. The dialogue at District and Town meetings also informs our town governance for future decision-making. And if those are not reasons enough, there is babysitting (fundraiser for 7th grade), lunch & snacks (fundraiser for the 8th grade), new and old faces, and lots of other community announcements and information shared throughout the day. I moved here in February of 2001 and the District and Town Meetings that year were the first major town-wide events I attended. I was completely hooked! I know life gets busy and there are many things competing for your time but I strongly encourage you to try to clear your schedule and take an active part in our town and its democracy on March 18th.

Sincerely,

Audra Bucklin

P.S. I am also attaching the PES submission to the March edition of PlainFacts.
