Facilities Committee Meeting

Plainfield School District

Feb. 16, 2006

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM. Present were Chair Bill Taylor, members S. Williams and M. Higgins and Principal Ellen Langsner.

Chair Taylor welcomed Principal Ellen Langsner who was invited to talk about issues within the physical plant. She prioritized three areas of the school that she believes need to be addressed:

• The first is the 7/8 grade locker and bathrooms adjacent to the gymnasium. The lockers are under utilized and the entire area is a behavior control issue for the staff.
• The need for a small office /one on one space for the physical and occupational therapists as well as the school psychologist. The larger Special Education meeting rooms are used for groups of 1-4 students and do not provide the privacy necessary for one on one meetings and/or testing.
• She suggested the SAU administrative offices be moved to an office trailer adjacent to the building which could free up some meeting space within the front office area.

Chair Taylor briefed Principal Langsner about the Committees work to date and the recommendations for improvements.

Principal Langsner noted she and other faculty members have been studying the playground with an eye towards upgrading some equipment and making it safer for all students.

Next meeting scheduled for Thursday, March.16, 2006 @ 7 PM.
